RUNNING MAKES IT'S DEBUT AT NORTH BERWICK

Shane Fenton reports from Recreation Park.

History was made at North Berwick Highland Games with running events taking place for the first time at the Recreation Park event.

Better known for staging a big entry high quality Pipe Band contest the games nearly always takes place the week before the World Championship and attracts a huge crowd.

Space limitation in the main arena only allowed 60 metres races to take place, although that may well change in the future. Four races took place, Open, Ladies, Veteran and an Invitation. A race was also run for the juniors.

Starting at 11am all races were completed prior to the heavy events starting at 1pm.

As expected, with the races over 60 metres finishes would be close. None more so than the final of the Open race which took around 10 minutes before a result was determined.
