Runners on their marks for New Year Sprint
Runners are preparing to go to their marks for Day 1 of the 148th New Year Sprint meeting which will be staged tomorrow[30th Dec] at the East Lothian Sports Arena[Meadowmill] Prestonpans.
12 Heats of the famous 110 metres Handicap will be run with the winners of each plus 8 fastest losers going forward to the cross-ties on Sunday which will take place at Musselburgh Racecourse. The winners of each cross tie along with four fastest losers will then go on to contest the grand final which carries a first prize of £4000.
A full programme of supporting events on the first day gets underway at 11am with heats of the Youths 90 metres handicap. That will be followed by heats of the New Year Sprint at 11 25am.
Other events include Open 90 metres handicap which incorporates a Vets & Womens final. An Open 800 mts and 1600mts handicap as well as a Youth's 200mts & 800mts both handicaps.
The weather for the first day looks favourable with temps of 11c, which will be in total contrast to 12 months ago when the entire meeting was held amid the full blast of Storm Frank.
