KENNY TURNER

KENNY TURNER

It is with great sadness we record the passing of Kenny Turner.

Kenny was a popular and well known figure on the Highland and Border Games circuits for over 40 years.

He was well known as a hard to reel in front marker competing in distances from 90 metres up to 400 metres.

One of his highlights was winning the 90 metres at Crieff on the same day as son Kevin won the Youth's. One of his best performances came at Coatbridge Games when off 16 metres he held off a field of backmarkers to win the sprint handicap.

His nemesis on the track was Jimmy Beattie of whom he had many a close finish with in sprints over the years.

Kenny was also much sought after as a trial horse by some of the 'big schools' who were traing runners for the New Year Sprint. Davie Gibson and Charlie Affleck always said,'' if your going to win the sprint you need Turner in the trials''.

Kenny introduced many athletes to the circuit he was a true Pro and a great amabassador for the sport and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
