Games athletes in World Masters action

Games athletes in World Masters action writes Shane Fenton.

A number of athletes who have competed over the years on the Games circuit have been in action this week in the World Athletics Masters Championships in Torun in Poland.

Running in the M35 Colin Welsh Kelso finished 3rd in his heat in 1:59.51 this qualified him for the final where he finished 9th in 2:03.33.

Paul Forbes, Edinburgh who ran at the New Year Athletics Gala in December contested the M60 800 metres, he qualified from his heat in 2:20.44 before finishing 6th in the final in 2:20.36.

John Thomson, Glenrothes won through to the final of the M60 1500 metres after finishing 2nd in his heat in 4:51.49. Colin Welsh is also through to the M35 final following a 4th place in his heat in 4:11.40

Ronnie Hunter, Crieff  lined up for both the M55 60m and 200m, despite finishing 3rd in the 60m in 8.11 and 2nd in the 200m in 26.47 he failed to progress to the semi finals on each occasion.

John Hilditch Australia did qualify for the M55 200m semi which was due to take place on Friday afternoon, after finishing runner up in his heat in 26.00.

Tony Bowman Leeds the oldest man to win he New Year Sprint won through to the final of the M80 60 metres after finishing 3rd in his heat in 9.84. In the final he placed 7th in 14.48.
