Most of you on the on the Highland Games circuit will recognise the name Scott Rider as being a champion Heavy Events competitor.

Scott, from Dartford has been on the Games circuit for around 15 years and during that time has amassed a long list of first places including winning multiple World and Scottish titles along the way. He is also a 4 times World Caber champion and holder of many ground records up and down the country.
What many of you won't know, is that Scott has also competed at the Commonwealth Games and Winter Olympics. In the latter, he was part of the Great Britain Four Man Bobsleigh team which finished in 11th place at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City.

As a member of Birchfield Harriers Scott, represented England in the Shot Putt at three Commonwealth Games reaching the final on each occasion. In Montreal in 2006 he finished 9th,an 8th place in Delhi in 2010 was followed by a 10th at Hampden Park in 2014.
Scott was also British Shot Putt Champion in 2014 and Indoor champion 10 years apart in 2003 and 2013.

He had some memorable days at Crieff Games, in 2016 he claimed another Scottish title with a performance that many reckoned had never been achieved before in the championship, in that he won all seven disciplines. The following year he became the first ever competitor to achieve a perfect 12 0' clock toss of the Crieff Challenge Caber, a feat which carried a bonus prize of £1000.

Maybe not this summer owing to the current circumstances, but hopefully we will see Scott continue to thrill the crowds on the circuit for a few more years to come.
