BIG TURNOUT EXPECTED FOR SHGA NIGHT OF 100 PRIZES
Shane Fenton previews the SHGA's Annual Awards Dinner.

The Scottish Highland Games Asssociation in conjunction with the Fife Highland Games Association will hold their annual Awards Dinner this Saturday evening in the Gilvenbank Hotel in Glenrothes.

Indications are, is that it's likely to be the best attended awards night for a number of years with athletes, their coaches and families set to arrive from all over the country. From Inverness and Dingwall in the Highlands, Aberdeen and Stonehaven in Grampian, Forfar and Kirriemuir in Angus to Innerleithen, Peebles and Hawick in the Borders to Oban, Balloch and Alexandria in the West. And don't forget the host region Fife who enjoyed one of their best ever seasons with 5 SHGA league winners. Europe will also be represented with 2019 Heavy event champion Vlad Tulacek from the Czech Republic set to be in attendance.

This year will see a record number of prizes being awarded, 100 to be exact. With the introduction of five new leagues for female competitors in 2019 there is now 17 different SHGA leagues, and with the top 4 each picking up prizes that is a total of 68 presentations. Add in the eleven main Athlete of the Year awards and that takes the total to 79.

The Fife HGA will aso present their league prizes, and,with the top three froM seven leagues set to be the recipients, that takes the total to the magic ton.

This years guest speaker is Stuart Hogg. Stuart started as a 15 year old at Markinch Highland games. A former British sprint champion before turning to coaching. He was Scottish Athletics coach of the year 3 years in a row. He has worked successfully with athletes representing their country in all major championships the Olympics, World, European and Commonwealth games, both indoor and out. Stuart brought fitness conditioning into top football clubs in Scotland including Aberdeen and Dundee United and more recently Peterhead.
