149th NEW YEAR SPRINT[Heats Draw] writes Shane Fenton
The heats of the 149th New Year Sprint were drawn at Musselburgh Racecourse on Monday 4th December. Ten heats were drawn with 7 runners in each of the first 6 heats and 6 runners in each of the remaining heats.
Backmarkers were seeded in each heat.
Heat winners and the 10 fastest losers progress to the 4 cross-ties (semi-finals).
Cross-tie winners and the 4 fastest losers make up the 8 strong final.
The heats will be staged at the East Lothian Athletics Arena in Prestonpans, on Saturday 30th December, with the cross-ties and final held at the traditional venue of Musselburgh Racecourse on January 1st 2018.
The New Year's Day foot racing is due to be held in conjunction with the National Hunt meeting with the New Year Sprint final being televised as part of ITV Racing's coverage of the day's events.
